Description: Duties/Responsibilities: Under general supervision, the incumbent analyzes complex legal documents (filed electronically or hard copy) for compliance with the Commission's Rules of Practice and Procedure, Public Utilities Code, and applicable General Orders, Commission Decisions and Resolutions; approves the filing of these documents or identifies defects and recommends appropriate action; responds to written and verbal inquiries regarding procedures relative to meeting requirements of the appropriate legal code; gathers factual information and performs legal research to assist in determining appropriate action; prepares case summaries, correspondence, recommendations, and reports; has lead responsibility over the work of legal assistants; and performs other related duties as required. Required Experience/Qualifications: The candidate selected for the position should have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to use good judgment when analyzing data and situations, draw sound conclusions, and take effective action. Working knowledge of statutes, court decisions, legal documents, and related material. Ability to articulate provisions of law, procedures, and problems to staff within the PUC and the general public. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at different levels. Ability to handle multiple assignments with accuracy, to prioritize work, meet deadlines and to work effectively independently or in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, challenging work environment requiring quick turnaround to meet work commitments having established deadlines. Demonstrated proficiency in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
