Job Description: Incumbent is responsible for planning, permitting and implementation of large scale wetland restoration projects from Santa Barbara County south to the Mexican border. Incumbent is also responsible for Interagency coordination associated with specific permit requirements including CEQA/NEPA, CESA/ESA, 401,404, SSA and RWQCB, and the California Coastal Act. Incumbent will represent the Department on technical working groups regarding major restoration of coastal wetlands. Coordinates contracts for consultant services with State Coastal Conservancy or other funding agencies, conducts review of consultant team documents and recommends to Supervising Biologist the necessary restoration and policy actions in accordance with DFG strategy for coastal wetlands protection and conservation. Analyze fish, wildlife and botanical population data and habitat surveys for use in the development and implementation of restoration plans and associated environmental documents for restoration projects. An emphasis on regionally appropriate alternatives and stakeholder involvement will occur, including as stakeholders those participants that may be in need of coastal wetland mitigation or have funds for restoration activities. Coordinates wetland restoration projects internally within Region and specifically interacts with the Regional Lands Program when the restoration involves a DFG-owned and/or managed wetland. Incumbent also coordinates with other regional and HQ functions as needed on wetland restoration issues.
