Job Description: Plan and develop a facility-wide volunteer services program and coordinate the program with other facility activities. Conduct surveys to determine facility needs which can be supplied by volunteers and determine qualifications required of volunteers for specific types of services. Plan and conduct a recruitment and information program designed to interest residents within the community. Address community groups. Conduct screening interviews and make assignments of volunteers on the basis of individual interests, abilities and facility needs. Develop an orientation program designed to acquaint volunteers with the facility and the various types of treatment and the behavioral characteristics of the residents. Arrange for in-service training in order to provide volunteers with the specific knowledge and skills needed to perform a particular type of service. Provide general direction of volunteers to supplement day-to-day supervision normally supplied by the department to which the volunteer is assigned. Compile work schedules and prepare materials for use with volunteer programs; prepare narrative and statistical reports and periodically evaluate the volunteer services program. Schedule mealtime volunteer coverage for main dining room assistance three times per day, 365 days per year to include both cafeteria helpers and facility shuttle drivers. Establish and maintain cooperative interrelationships with individuals and groups contacted in the course of the work. Recruit and Coordinate the VA Work Study Program. Identify facility needs for staffing. Work closely with the VA Work Study Headquarters in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Handle all aspects of hiring, tracking schedules, coordinating assignments, and approving hours. Management of the Volunteer Helper Program. Conduct screening; determine volunteer assignments; coordinate the program with facility managers; keep records; generate monthly reports; and maintain files on each participant and all other duties related to this volunteer program. Establish and implement a Work Project program, through the Los Angeles County Probation Department, to contract for a volunteer work force of County Work Project probationers who would be eligible to complete their public service requirements working for the Veterans Home facility.
