Job Description: Under the general direction of the Assistant General Counsel (AGC), Employment Advocacy and Prosecution Team (EAPT), the Staff Counsel III – Supervisor, oversees Staff Counsel during the investigation and prosecution of disciplinary actions on behalf of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The duties performed by the Staff Counsel III – Supervisor are: mentors and oversees the performance by the Vertical Advocates (attorneys assigned CDCR disciplinary cases) on designated adverse action cases, throughout the investigations and prosecutions before the State Personnel Board. In the absence of the Vertical Advocate, or if a case requires a co-counsel, Staff Counsel III – Supervisor, may perform the duties of the Staff Counsel. The Staff Counsel III - Supervisor also interfaces and consults with the Office of the Inspector General, Bureau of Independent Review (BIR), which office monitors CDCR disciplinary processes; drafts Petitions for Writ of Mandate and represents the CDCR in any subsequent appeals in the Superior Courts or other appellate courts; performs other duties as required by the Secretary of CDCR or the General Counsel, Office of Legal Affairs, including acting as AGC if necessary. This position is located in Rancho Cucamonga, and includes travel throughout the state to state prisons and state courts. NOTE: THIS POSITION ALSO INCLUDES AN ADDITIONAL $900 MONTHLY PAYMENT FOR RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION.
