Job Description: ***PLEASE INDICATE POSITION NUMBER AND BASIS FOR ELIGIBILITY ON STD. 678.*** Methods of appointment to be considered will include transfers and reinstatements. Applicants must have civil service eligibility. All applications will be reviewed; however, only the most competitive candidates will be interviewed. “Salaries will be adjusted accordingly to comply with the provisions of the current furlough program”. Plans sick call by triaging inmate requests, assists LVN in scheduling, performs patient assessments when necessary, makes referrals, assists with the Primary Care Provider’s line as needed, treats minor health complaints, if utilizing standardized RN protocols, references the Standardized Protocol in documentation, receives and completes verbal, written, and electronic physician orders, reports test results to the physician, coordinates care for patients discharged from inpatient facility to provide continuity of care and coordinates with emergency care. Ensure that all laboratory requests are completed before specimens are sent to the lab. Documents all nursing assessments, care, and patient teaching in the electronic health record, tracks requests for diagnostic tests, maintains clinic logs, completes statistical reports, and assists with screening of new arrival health records. Provides clinical nursing direction and assistance to the LVN under the respective scopes of the RN’s and LVN’s licensure including, but not limited to, decisions regarding triage and continuing care. Performs audits and monitors treatments, medication administration and specimen collection for purposes of quality assurance. Maintains a safe and secure environment, following all safety and Universal Precautions, reports any unsafe equipment or situations, and is knowledgeable of emergency and fire procedures. Will assist with cleaning, ordering, and maintaining clinic supplies. Ensures all emergency equipment is operational with sufficient quantities available for usage. Responds to all emergencies and assumes charge of patient care. Provides care in accordance to scope of licensure. Assists with orientation of new employees, attends in-service training, annual IST training, and Staff Developments education classes, thereby maintaining registered nursing licensure and BLS certification as well as serves on various committees, completes nursing care audits and attends staff meetings. When certified, provides HIV Pre- and Post-Test counseling for patients and assists with yearly TB testing of patients and staff. The RN shall perform any necessary or miscellaneous duties assigned.
