Job Description:
***PLEASE INDICATE POSITION NUMBER AND BASIS FOR ELIGIBILITY ON STD. 678.*** Methods of appointment to be considered will include transfers and reinstatements. Applicants must have civil service eligibility. All applications will be reviewed; however, only the most competitive candidates will be interviewed. “Salaries will be adjusted accordingly to comply with the provisions of the current furlough program”. These positions are limited term with the potential of becoming permanent. Essential Functions: Provide general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally disordered inmates and medical patients, which include performing nursing procedures such as administering and charting prescribed medications, diabetic care and treatments, including oral and injectable medications. Observe physical condition and behavior, noting significant changes and reporting them to the appropriate staff. Facilitate the involvement of inmates in therapeutic activities. Work with the interdisciplinary Treatment Team to develop overall Treatment Plans to address each individual’s treatment needs. Conduct evaluations on possible injuries related to custody incidents. Perform First Aid/CPR, if needed. Complete nursing notes in inmate electronic medical records and complete other required documentation, including, but not limited to CDC forms, as required. Work and interact with all other disciplines, including medical, custody, and administrative staff as part of the treatment program for the inmate. Maintain documentation of Psych Tech rounds and interactions of inmate behaviors. Assist Psychiatrists with their lines, which include recording data and noting the doctor’s orders when necessary. Assist with monitoring medications, charts, and activities of daily living. Process medical or mental health requests to ensure that inmates receive prompt and appropriate mental health care. Assist other disciplines to provide a safe, therapeutic environment. Develop clear and concise incident reports. Facilitate the involvement of inmates in recreational therapy activities, including assisting the recreational therapists in providing recreational therapy programs for the inmates. Motivate and assist inmates with activities of daily living. Attend psychiatric staff meetings and conferences. Attend other Health Care Services meetings as needed. Maintain the continuation of out-of-cell times for inmates. Work and interact with all other disciplines, including Medical staff, Custody staff, Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social workers, Administrative staff, and all other mental health professional to ensure a safe environment and continued quality of care. Attends in-service training, annual IST, and Staff Developments education classes’ thereby maintaining a current LPT licensure and BLS certification. The LPT shall perform any necessary or miscellaneous duties assigned.
