Title:  PORTFOLIO MANAGER, STATE TEACHERS' RETIREMENT SYSTEM

Job Description:

  • Develop comprehensive strategy for the Global Equity portfolio based upon economic forecasts, industry trends and program needs in conjunction with the total return objectives for the portfolio as defined within Policy.
  • Provide specialized expertise and consultation related to unique global equity programs such as the Sustainable Investment Program, Developing Manager Program, and Pension2.
  • Evaluate relative value within various segments of the Global Equity portfolio in order to determine the optimal portfolio structure and asset allocation consistent with the current strategy utilizing market analytical tools, consultants, advisors, and business contacts.
  • Implement investment decisions resulting from current and new strategies and relative value analysis including the oversight of the retention and termination of managers, negotiation of contract terms, and the screening/selection of investment managers.
  • Conduct on-site, due diligence inspections and evaluations of investment managers and potential investment opportunities located throughout the United States and internationally.
  • Manage staff as required, including coaching, evaluating performance, training, etc.
  • Represent CalSTRS at various conferences, advisory boards and committees and before the investment community.

Desirable Qualifications

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting. Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Detail oriented, able to multi-task while remaining efficient. Ability to prioritize and complete assignments to meet critical deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Proficient in analyzing equity portfolios using market data and systems such as FactSet, BARRA, and Bloomberg. Proficient with Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Note:
(1) Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement, an online BI application and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.

(2) The position may be subject to the disclosure and disqualification requirements concerning economic conflict of interest in government work, pursuant to the CalSTRS Conflict of Interest Code and the Political Reform Act.
