Job Description:
DUTIES: The Enforcement Unit is seeking a full time Environmental Scientist. Under the general direction of a Senior Engineering Geologist, the incumbent will be part of an interdisciplinary team that will review and evaluate technical data, conduct investigations and prepares formal enforcement actions for permit and Water Code violations. The incumbent will also determine and negotiate penalties and SEPs with dischargers. The incumbent will prepare and make effective presentations to the Board and to the public, as required. The incumbent will also maintain and update the Regional Board SEP (Supplemental Environmental Projects) List and individual SEPs. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and experience in preparing and issuing enforcement orders. Also possess experience in surface and subsurface soil and groundwater investigations and remediation; evaluating contaminant fate and transport in the environment and impacts on water resources; the ability to write and speak effectively; computer skills (Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point etc.); and making effective presentations to the Board and to the public, as required. WHO MAY APPLY: Applicants must hold a current Environmental Scientist (ES) appointment, or possess list, transfer, or reinstatement eligibility to the ES classification. Priority will be given to individuals with current reemployment, SROA and surplus status. Applications will be screened and only the most qualified will be interviewed.
