Job Description: Under broad administrative direction of the Chief, Food and Drug Laboratory Branch, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor I, Research Scientists I, II, III, and IV, in a program with high visibility that requires unique scientific expertise. The incumbent is the Chief of the Chemistry Section and provides administrative guidance to Research Scientists and leadership in planning, organizing, and directing difficult and complex major original scientific research studies that have a broad statewide scientific scope in the safety of food and drugs; the incumbent makes original, independent decisions on complex scientific problems using scientific theories and principles on association and risk and then develops hypotheses on causes and also tests these hypotheses. The incumbent acts as a highly specialized consultant in biochemical and chemical research, prepares research findings for presentation in scientific literature, and interprets these findings for the public.
