Job Description: THE POSITION: Candidates must perform the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations. JOB DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Regional Brand Supervisor, the incumbent for this position will work part time and provide service to the Monterey County and surrounding areas. The incumbent will inspect cattle for identifying marks and brands; apply principles and practices of animal husbandry and operation of livestock ranches. Must be familiar with the provisions of laws and regulations designed to prevent theft of cattle. The incumbent will complete necessary written reports that include inspector’s daily reports, inspection certificates, stray reports, and revenue transmittals. The Brand Inspector examines Bill of Sale and/or documents to determine proper proof of ownership and enforces compliance of the Hide and Brand Law; and, travels to job sites that may include traveling over rough terrain. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Read, write, and speak English at a level required for successful job performance; have a willingness to travel and to work long and irregular hours; possess a valid California Driver’s License; interpret and apply laws and regulations relating to animal identification; learn and apply formal investigation techniques and procedures, prepare concise and complete reports; establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the line of work; prepare correspondence. Computer skills are highly desirable, but not required.
