Job Description: DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Prison Industries Superintendent I, (Laundry), this position is responsible for the supervision of inmate workers in the operation of the Laundry Enterprise (Clean Side). Typical duties include: supervises and coordinates the work of inmates in sorting and washing laundry, and the operation of various laundry equipment; maintains order, safety, and security within the work place; supervises the installation, maintenance, and repair of laundry equipment; maintains necessary materials, supplies, and inventory records. The incumbent is responsible for quality production, inventory, and cost controls; trains and evaluates the performance of inmates, including preparing inmate timekeeping records and disciplinary documentation; prepares production records and reports; conducts safety meetings; ensures a safe work environment; assists with custodial searches and inmate counts, and performs other duties as required. WORK SHIFT: Monday through Friday 1000 to 1800, RDO's Saturday & Sunday. REQUISITE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of production methods, materials, machinery processes, use of tools and equipment in an industrial laundry operation; production scheduling and control; quality standards and control; safety practices; material ordering and handing techniques; principles of personnel management and supervision. Ability to set-up, adjust, and operate industrial laundry equipment; make labor and material estimates; instruct and supervise inmates in production techniques and safety practices, maintain firm, impartial, and consistent discipline; understand rules, regulations, laws and procedures; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; record keeping and report preparation; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an industrial laundry enterprise with supervisory experience. Must possess tact, patience, and the ability to work with persons confined in a correctional institution.
