Job Description: SUBJECT TO HIRING FREEZE....Under general supervision of the Chief of Police, this command level position, is expected to exercise considerable professional expertise in the supervision and management of subordinates; while actively ensuring overtime is kept to a minimum. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, training and coordinating operational or administrative activities of a division. Responsible for assisting the Chief of Police and hospital administrators in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Departmental Responsibility. Insure that all policies and procedures related to safety and security are implemented and followed and that division operations are in full compliance with all applicable regulations, standards and procedures. Provide timely information, advice and recommendations to the Chief of Police regarding serious incidents or policy issues affecting the security and safety of the hospital. As a command officer, assumes complete responsibility for the performance and operation of an operational or administrative division within the department. Personnel Management and Supervision. Supervise and evaluate the performance and competency of assigned personnel. Review the supervisory skills of subordinates to insure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies. Insure that security issues are evaluated in order to prepare recommendations. Obligates subordinates to thoroughly investigate and document accidents, injuries and breaches of security. Establish reasonable employee standards and expectations. Insure that all work is completed properly and in a timely fashion. Leadership/Quality Improvement. Develop and maintain effective standards, training, expectations and directions for the members of the division and holds subordinates accountable for their actions. Provide effective leadership, direction and support for an effective system to ensure a workplace free from discrimination and sexual harassment. Adhere to, and enforce, departmental regulations and guidelines in relation to Equal Employment Opportunities. Enforce and adhere to laws and rules regarding Violence in the Workplace, Sexual Harassment, and professional conduct. Actively participate in quality improvement meetings to address issues relative to law enforcement or security needs. When directed, represent the department at management, policy or advisory meetings. Interpersonal Relationships. Establish and maintain close liaison with other hospital managers. Conduct regular meetings with division members in order to foster information sharing, responsibility, accountability and team building. Encourage effective communication between division members and the staff, patients, visitors, vendors and other utilizing the hospital. The following will be considered for interview and possible appointment: eligible candidates who are current state employees with status in the above classification, lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former state employees who can reinstate into this class, and persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification.
