Job Description: ***WHO MAY APPLY: Eligible candidates who are current State employees with status in the above classification or lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former State employees who can reinstate into this class or persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification. All interested applicants must submit a standard State Application Form STD 678 (with original signature), the position number must included on the application being submitted,and must clearly indicate the basis of their eligibility in line item number 12 (explanation) of the STD 678. Surplus candidates must submit copy of surplus letter. UNDER THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE CORRECTIONAL SUPERVISING COOK (CSC) INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARATION, COOKING AND SERVING FOOD FOR THE INMATES EATING IN A-2, A-3, DMH, G-1, G-2, HOSPICE AND THE DIET KITCHEN; RESPONSIBLE FOR A-2, A-3, COLD LINE AND NOURISHMENT PREPARATION; RESPONSIBLE FOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF KITCHEN EQUIPMENT; REQUISITIONS SUPPLIES; INSTRUCTS INMATE WORKERS IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES; INSTRUCTS INMATE WORKERS IN MAINTAINING ORDER AND SAFETY OF WORK AREAS. PREPARES AND COOKS BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ITEMS AND NOURISHMENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MENU AND INSTRUCTIONS OF THE DIETICIAN OR SUPERVISOR. PERFORMS BREAK OUT OF ALL MEAT IN THE THAW BOX NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY’S MEAL. PREPARES TRAYS FOR PATIENTS WHETHER INPATIENT OR OUTPATIENT. RESETS HOT SERVING LINE; CHECKS THAT PROPER FOOD TEMPERATURE IS MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. MAINTAINS SANITATION IN WORK AREA; RESPONSIBLE FOR LEAVING ASSIGNED WORK AREA AND EQUIPMENT CLEAN BEFORE GOING OFF DUTY. CHECKS WITH CSC FOR ITEMS NEEDED FOR REQUISITIONING FROM THE WAREHOUSE, VEGETABLE ROOM AND MILK ROOM. COORDINATES WITH DIET CLERKS AND DAILY COUNT, SPECIAL DIET ORDER AND OTHER INDIVIDUAL MEAL PLANS FOR A-2 AND A-3; COORDINATES WITH CSC IN THE EVALUATION OF INMATE HELPERS’ WORK PERFORMANCE AND RECOMMEND APPROPRIATE ACTIONS.
